Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups white flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp shortening
- ¾ cup water
- ¾ cup apple juice
- ½ cup diced apple
- 1 tbsp of sugar (optional)
Method
- Combine salt, flour and baking powder
- Cut in shortening until well mixed
- Add diced apple and sugar, toss
- Add both liquids and stir until combined (do not overmix)
Option 1
- Divide dough into 8 to 10 strips and wrap each around a stick.
- Cook over a campfire for about 10 minutes, turning regularly for even doneness.
Option 2
- Divide dough into one or two large pieces or 8 smaller pieces.
- In a cast iron pan over medium heat, cook until golden on both sides.
