Jodi Abbott is a community leader in the fields of sport, education and health care. An accomplished ice skating judge, she mentors youth and ice officials with the International Skating Union and Skate Canada. She is admired as the past president and CEO of NorQuest College, and as a leader in Alberta’s health care system, where she is at the forefront of innovative change to enhance health services in the province.

Michael James Massey, C.M., A.O.E.
St. Albert, Alberta

Michael Massey is one of Alberta’s most influential artists. A conductor, composer and collaborative pianist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, he has helped cultivate the careers of some of our country’s most renowned artists. He is also the beloved conductor of the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, through which he has mentored thousands of young musicians for more than 46 years and instilled in his students a lifelong love and appreciation of music. His dedication to music education has left an indelible mark on Canadian culture.

Beverly Janet Lemire, C.M.
Edmonton, Alberta

By unravelling the significance of the ordinary object, Beverly Lemire has reshaped the study of material culture. This University of Alberta professor has produced new knowledge by using cross-cultural, interdisciplinary perspectives to place textiles within their broader social, political and economic contexts, across centuries and continents. Her research has influenced a generation of textile, design and material culture scholars worldwide.

Glen Baker, C.M.
Edmonton, Alberta

Glen Baker has made groundbreaking contributions to the field of neuropsychopharmacology. This University of Alberta professor emeritus has advanced our knowledge of several psychiatric and neurological disorders, as well as our understanding of the pharmacology of antidepressants. In addition to being a leader in the field, he has been a committed educator, having held multiple positions in university administration, and mentored many scientists and clinicians.

Louis Hugo Francescutti, C.M., M.S.M.
Sherwood Park, Alberta

Louis Francescutti is a foremost emergency medicine physician and leading authority on injury prevention. Over the past 25 years, he has spearheaded various public safety awareness campaigns to address the immediate needs of society’s most vulnerable people. A professor at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health and Department of Emergency Medicine, he mentors future health care professionals in transformational leadership, advocacy and public safety.

Vickie Elaine Baracos, C.M.
Edmonton, Alberta

Vickie Baracos has transformed our understanding of cachexia, a debilitating syndrome that causes rapid weight and muscle loss in patients with advanced-stage cancer, leaving them with a skin-and-bones appearance. A professor at the University of Alberta, she developed groundbreaking insights into the fundamental biology of this complex condition. Her work has since led to clinical classification and diagnosis, and has paved the way for treatment and improved patient outcomes.

Javaid Abbas Naqvi, C.M.
Edmonton, Alberta

Jerry Naqvi is a well-respected business and community leader in Edmonton. Following his immigration to Canada from Pakistan in 1964, he became the founder and chair of Cameron Corporation, a prominent Alberta commercial real estate development company. Committed to giving back, he is a long-standing supporter of many community and non-profit organizations supporting education, newcomers to Canada, interfaith dialogue, and individuals living with autism.
