As a significant employer in the province, the Mylan Group provides on-site training in order to enhance the skilled labour base.

While in Tra Vinh City, His Excellency toured the Mylan Group Research and Development facilities.

The Mylan Group was founded in 2004, and constitutes four major branches: Mylan Chemicals Inc.; Mylan Printing media Corp.; Mylan Group Research and Development Center; and Mylan Optoelectronics. Mylan Group actively recruits graduates from Tra Vinh University. Once named the Tra Vinh Community College, this centre of higher education in Tra Vinh was originally established, with the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in 2001.

The Governor General and Canadian delegates participated in a panel discussion on skills training with Vietnamese counterparts. The Governor General delivered remarks on education and innovation, as well as on Canada's contribution to development co-operation, to students from Tra Vinh University and other employers.

The Governor General and Canadian delegates witnessed how technical and commercial innovations, supported through Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) projects, have improved the livelihood of farmers in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.

The governor general had the opportunity to visit a fragrant rice field and observe the application of an organic rice pesticide. They also visited a Khmer dairy farm and a milk collection point of the Evergrowth Dairy Cooperative, which are both supported as part of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) project.

His Excellency toured the Tac Rong Khmer Temple, which was built in 1224. It is considered the oldest among some 90 Khmer temples located in the Soc Trang province.
