Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of National Science and Technology Week

OTTAWA— One of the pillars of my mandate as governor general is strengthening learning and innovation, two themes that go hand-in-hand with science and technology. I am therefore delighted to mark National Science and Technology Week.

Canada is renowned internationally for its innovations. Through a wide range of achievements that have shaped our collective history, Canadians have positioned themselves as leaders. To maintain this enviable reputation and enrich our technical and scientific heritage, we must ensure that there will be new, skilled professionals to join the ranks of our experienced researchers.

From October 14 to 23, everyone is invited to celebrate the sciences and technology through hundreds of activities taking place right across the country. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, to spend time together as a family, and to pique the curiosity of our future scientists. For a list of exciting activities, please visit www.science.gc.ca.

May you enjoy a truly inspiring National Science and Technology Week.

David Johnston
