Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on the 59th anniversary of Her Majesty's accesssion to the Throne
On this February 6, Her Majesty The Queen celebrates the 59th anniversary of her accession to the Throne and enters the 60th year of her reign.
During last year’s Royal Tour, many Canadians were thrilled to catch a glimpse of our beloved monarch. She has captured our hearts and our imaginations for nearly six decades, and that alone is reason to mark this auspicious anniversary. All over the country, we show our love for the Crown.
As Her Majesty’s representative in Canada, I was pleased to announce that The Queen has approved to creation of the Diamond Jubilee Medal. The recent unveiling of this medal begins the celebration that will mark this exceptional occasion in our country. A perfect way to honour her 60th anniversary and to recognize deserving Canadians who have contributed so much to this nation.
The upcoming Diamond Jubilee will be a unique occasion in our history to pay homage to The Queen, who has ruled with compassion, dignity and warmth.
