Message from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, on the death of the Honourable Robert Gordon Rogers, former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia

OTTAWA – Flags across British Columbia are flying at half-mast today in tribute to the Honourable Robert Gordon Rogers. History will remember this tremendous and multi-talented Canadian as someone who served his country and province with the utmost distinction.

Former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and recipient of the Order of Canada, Robert Gordon Rogers distinguished himself in a number of fields. He had the golden touch. After serving with great valour in the military, he found success in the business world and at the community level.

His influence was felt in many areas, including the forestry sector, the arts and postsecondary education. He also served as Chancellor of the University of Victoria. Many will affectionately recall his proud nature and the tireless enthusiasm he brought to all his endeavours.

My husband Jean-Daniel Lafond joins me in offering, on behalf of all Canadians, our sincerest condolences to his family, his friends and British Columbians.

Michaëlle Jean
