Symbolism

Red and white are the emblematic colours of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, in which Mr. Dupont is a Knight of Justice. The bridge evokes Mr. Dupont’s surname (pont meaning “bridge” in French). Its two arches form the letter M and thus refer to Mr. Dupont’s first name. Designed to connect two banks of a river, the bridge is emblematic of cooperation, mediation and diplomacy, qualities which Mr. Dupont values. As a noble and indispensable creature, the bee is known as a hard-working insect which respects the authority of the hive and is loyal, diligent, and prefers to live in a group, qualities that describe Mr. Dupont. Producing honey for the benefit and enjoyment of all, the bee is seen as being generous, an idea that ties in with the motto, in addition to alluding to Mr. Dupont’s love for cooking. His maternal grandfather, who had considerable influence on Mr. Dupont in his youth, was also a beekeeper. The bee thus also recalls the family farm where Mr. Dupont grew up. The trillium flower symbolizes his pride in being a Franco-Ontarian.
