Blazon

On a hurt a chained anchor Or, all within an annulus Argent edged with rope Or and inscribed with the names CANADIAN HYDROGRAPHIC SERVICE and SERVICE HYDROGRAPHIQUE DU CANADA in letters Sable separated by two maple leaves Gules, the whole surmounted by the Royal Crown proper;

Symbolism

The badge was created by CHS employee Gordon B. Croll in 1954. The blue background and anchor are representative of contributions made by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) to the safety of maritime transportation. The maple leaves evoke the pride in service to Canada and resemble those in the original design, but are now presented in a different position.
