Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser undertook an official visit to the Northwest Territories from April 25 to 27, 2023.

Upon arrival, Governor General Simon and Mr. Fraser were greeted by the Honourable Margaret Thom, Commissioner of Northwest Territories. The Governor General inspected a guard of honour.
Their Excellencies met with the Honourable Margaret Thom, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories to discuss youth and education in the territory. Their Excellencies also signed the guest book.
Later in the afternoon, Their Excellencies met with the Honourable Caroline Cochrane, Premier of the Northwest Territories and also signed the guest book.
In the evening, the Governor General delivered remarks at the official reception by the Premier of the Northwest Territories.

Their Excellencies welcomed His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Ms. Elke Büdenbender, as they undertook a working visit to Canada from April 23 to 26, 2023.
Governor General Mary Simon joined the President on his visit to Joint Task Force North (JTFN) followed by a visit to the community of Tuktoyaktuk, where the Governor General and Mr. Fraser accompanied President Steinmeier and Ms. Büdenbender as they learned of the unique climate change challenges faced by northern communities.
Later in the afternoon, Her Excellency accompanied the German President and his spouse to the hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk to meet with Indigenous leaders and members of the community.
They also visited the shores of the Arctic Ocean to learn about the impacts of climate change on this community and attended a community event at Kitti Hall.
