OTTAWA, Ontario—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser will undertake an official visit to the Northwest Territories from April 25 to 27, 2023.
During their visit, Their Excellencies will meet with Territorial officials, including the Commissioner, the Premier and Indigenous leaders. Their Excellencies will also welcome His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Ms. Elke Büdenbender, as they undertake a working visit to Canada from April 23 to 26, 2023. Governor General Mary Simon will join the President on his visit to Joint Task Force North (JTFN) followed by a visit to the community of Tuktoyaktuk, where the Governor General and Mr. Fraser will accompany President Steinmeier and Ms. Büdenbender as they learn of the unique climate change challenges faced by northern communities.

Her Excellency will accompany the German President and his spouse to the hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk to meet with Indigenous leaders and members of the community. They will also visit the shores of the Arctic Ocean to learn about the impacts of climate change on this community and attend a community event at Kitti Hall.
