Message from the Governor General on the Occasion of National Child Day

OTTAWA— As parents and grandparents, Sharon and I know that we have much to learn from children and young people. They have such energy, curiosity and inexhaustible resolve to change things for the better. Ensuring their well-being has always been a priority for us and is one of the reasons why they are such an integral part of my mandate as governor general.

On November 20, Canadians from coast to coast to coast will celebrate National Child Day  to commemorate the United Nations' adoption of two documents centered on children's rights: the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention is a commitment to ensuring that children have a voice, are protected from harm, have their basic needs met and are given every opportunity to reach their full potential.

On this special day, I invite you to show your love for the children in your life and remind them of just how important they are.
