Presentation of the Visual and Media Arts Awards

Governor General Simon presented Canada’s top visual and media arts honours to outstanding Canadians during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts recognize eight artists for excellence.

Awards for distinguished artistic achievement were presented to Shuvinai Ashoona (Kinngait, Nunavut), Barbara Astman (Toronto, Ontario), Marjorie Beaucage (Duck Lake, Saskatchewan), Dominique Blain (Montréal, Quebec), Don Ritter (Montréal, Quebec) et Greg Staats (Toronto, Ontario).

The award for excellence in the fine crafts (Saidye Bronfman Award) was presented to Louise Lemieux Bérubé (Montréal, Quebec).

The award for outstanding contributions to contemporary visual arts, media arts and fine crafts was presented to Michelle Jacques (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).

You explore the truth hidden in the forest, in landscapes, in images, in the power relations between people or in the difficulties and constraints of our world. You explore aspects of life that words cannot express.
