Visits to Shelters in Ottawa and Gatineau

During her visit, she spoke with people who had been displaced and were hard at work in clean-up operations.

The Governor General, in the presence of Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, Mayor of Gatineau, visited a local shelter that has been set up to assist those displaced.

The Governor General then visited the community of Dunrobin, Ontario, and witnessed first-hand the devastation of this natural disaster that has befallen its residents.

Again, she thanked volunteers for their assistance in bringing relief to those in need.

The Governor General briefly addressed those gathered at the crisis centre and recognized the impressive and powerful way the community had come together to support one another.

She then visited a temporary crisis centre where she listened to the residents describe their experiences.

This includes the sheltering of animals, whose well-being and proximity provide comfort to their owners.

The Red Cross is providing shelter, relief and comfort to the hundreds impacted by the tornado.

She met with Red Cross volunteers and acknowledged the important work they are doing.

On September 21, 2018, a tornado tore through Canada's Capital Region. The neighbourhood of Mont-Bleu in Gatineau, Quebec, was severely affected. Hundreds of residents were displaced following the ravages.
