Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of Mental Health Week
OTTAWA—When it comes to mental health, one voice can help break the silence. Now imagine what a whole country of voices could do!
This Mental Health Week, Sharon and I urge everyone to add their voices to the Canadian Mental Health Association’s #GetLoud campaign. Too many Canadians suffer in silence because they are too afraid or ashamed to seek help. We have seen the devastating consequences of staying silent, and know the anguish it can bring to families, loved ones and whole communities. It must stop.
So get loud for positive mental health. When we recognize the signs, when we speak up and get involved, we can improve and even save lives.
David Johnston
