Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of National Public Service Week
OTTAWA— National Public Service Week serves as a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contributions of public servants across Canada. There have been many opportunities, at home and abroad, where I have relied on the expertise of public servants. In fact, I could not fulfill my role without them.
A nation needs a strong, innovative, dedicated public service to remain globally competitive and to sustain essential support for Canadians. Those who serve Canada do so in many different capacities, because they believe that creating a stronger, fairer, more just society requires all of us to work together. Many public servants work behind the scenes, invisible yet invaluable; without them, we would not have the success that we enjoy.
During my years as governor general, I have seen first-hand, and on many occasions, how public servants have earned our respect. I hope that all Canadians will join me in saluting our public servants who help create a smarter, more caring nation.
