Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General of Canada, on the occasion of Victoria Day

OTTAWA — As we make the most of this Victoria Day to celebrate our Sovereign’s birthday, it is an honour and indeed a pleasure to join with all Canadians in paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The year 2012 marked Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Since her coronation nearly six decades ago, The Queen has been steadfast in her constancy, devotion and altruism. Over the course of her reign, she has travelled to Canada numerous times, met with countless Canadians and visited hundreds of communities across our vast and majestic country.

She is intimately linked to our history, our way of life and our values. For most of us, she is the only monarch we have ever known. What a marvellous opportunity for us to show her our appreciation and to celebrate our origins and traditions. On this joyous occasion, I would like to reaffirm my loyalty to Her Majesty and extend to her my best wishes for the years to come in her glorious reign.

May you all enjoy this wonderful day!

David Johnston
