Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, following the death of the Honourable Sylvia Fedoruk

OTTAWA—My wife, Sharon, and I are saddened by the loss of the Honourable Sylvia Fedoruk, former lieutenant governor of Saskatchewan.

In so many ways, Sylvia Fedoruk was a pioneer who contributed greatly to the well-being of the people of Saskatchewan and of all Canadians. As the province’s first female lieutenant governor, she fulfilled her role with unwavering dignity and dedication. She also broke barriers as a scientist and researcher, particularly through her work developing new therapies for use in the treatment of cancer.

For these and for her many other contributions to Canada, Sylvia Fedoruk will long be remembered. On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest condolences to her family, her friends and to the people of Saskatchewan.

David Johnston
