Message from the Governor General Congratulating Canadian Athletes
on their Performances at the London 2012 Olympic Games
OTTAWA—On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate all of our country’s athletes on their performances at the Olympic Games in London. My wife, Sharon, and I were privileged to meet some of them during the Games and we are so proud of their efforts. They each embody the never-give-up Canadian spirit, and they have the admiration and gratitude of an entire nation.
With the world’s attention on London, so many of their stories began to emerge—stories of fortitude, grace, skill, stamina and occasionally heartbreak. Canadians were with them every step of the way on this journey, for the big victories and for the personal triumphs and hardships. And at every turn, we cheered them on.
As our Olympic athletes bid farewell to London, we now turn our attention to the Paralympic Games, beginning August 29, with even more opportunities for Canadians to excel.
Once again, congratulations to all the athletes on their accomplishments.
