OTTAWA–We are very fortunate in Canada to have such a remarkable public service that is dedicated to excellence, both in terms of the quality of its employees and the work they accomplish with heart and integrity. Every day, these women and men use their knowledge, passion and creativity in the service of our country and the entire Canadian population.

It is a job that goes far beyond personal interest: they work for our well-being and the evolution of our society as a whole. Given our national realities, they know we cannot go it alone, because, although the challenges they currently face are not breaking down borders, they still concern the entire world. In this age of technological ferment, they recognize the need to have a global vision and to adopt a human and worldwide approach to developing and applying programs and policies.

I am delighted to offer Canada’s public servants my warmest wishes during this National Public Service Week and to join all Canadians in sincerely thanking them for all that they do.

Michaëlle Jean
