OTTAWA–During my visits across Canada and around the world, I have had the opportunity to speak to members of the Canadian Forces and their families. Listening to them talk about their lives, catching snatches of conversation here and here, and reading mission reports has helped me to fully understand how much credit they deserve.

Day after day, these women and men show boundless will and unfailing dedication and commitment to defending the values we hold dear, values we sometimes take for granted. I am always enormously impressed by the extraordinary courage, selflessness and determination of our soldiers. They are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and do everything they can, sparing no effort, to ensure that Canadians and populations in danger can live in safety, free from oppression and injustice. They deserve great admiration for the energy they devote to looking after the well-being of the world’s populations and for the results they accomplish.

I am very proud to be Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces. I join all Canadians in expressing our deepest and sincerest thanks to all Canadian Forces members and their families.
