It was with tremendous sadness that I learned of the death of the Honourable Gérald Beaudoin.
Known and respected as one of Canada’s eminent constitutional experts and universally appreciated for his availability to others, his kindness and his good humour, he was the quintessential gentleman in the noblest sense of the word.
Like everyone who had the good fortune to know him, I am saddened by the loss of this scholar, for he was a generous, moderate and cultured man. I had many opportunities to witness the wisdom of this great communicator at events held at Rideau Hall and the Citadelle: he would always listen to others, particularly our youth.
I offer my sincerest condolences to his wife, daughters and loved ones.
