Verna Wenk, Binbrook, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For the past 16 years, Verna Wenk has been reassuring seniors in her community through an organization called Tele-touch. She provides them with security and conversation enabling elderly persons to live in their own home for as long as possible. Mrs. Wenk acts as an advocate for her clients, helping them obtain services such as homecare or friendly visiting. In addition, she sits on the Board of Participation House and assists speech therapists with patients who have lost the ability to speak because of brain damage. The lives of seniors and others in her community are enriched by her genuine caring concern.
