Basil Agnew, Morden, Manitoba
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than twenty years, Basil Agnew has devoted most of his free time to helping others in his parish and community. He has raised funds to build a new seniors centre in Morden and recruited volunteers to help organize the 1996 Manitoba Summer Games. However, his warmth and caring are most evident in the countless, low-key, often anonymous, acts of kindness he performs for community members in need, from providing transportation for senior citizens, to helping friends and neighbours with gardening and home maintenance.
