Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Noticing that the drug problem in his area was reaching high levels, in 1969 Joseph Zemanovich joined with the Rotary Club and local pharmaceutical companies and founded the Emergency Drug Unit at the Lakeshore General Hospital. He also helped the local YMCA establish a Juvenile Diversion Program. Since 1995, he has been involved in the Lakeshore Football Association as a coach and fundraiser. In 1997, he led the Kenya Water and Power Project, raising funds for the purchase of materials enabling the introduction of running water and electricity in a village in Kenya. When a need existed, Mr. Zemanovich has been there to volunteer his time and skills.
