Rosalie M. Meier, Campbell River, B.C.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Rosalie Meier started volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society in 1965 as a door-to-door canvasser. She has since held every position on her unit's executive, including thirty years as fundraising chair. Under her direction, the unit has consistently met or exceeded its fundraising goal, despite frequent mill closures and economic instability. She coordinates the April Canvass fundraising event every year and spearheaded Campbell River's first Jail `n Bail fundraising event, generating more than $50,000 in a community of just 40,000 people. In addition to her work for the Cancer Society, Mrs. Meier volunteers in her church and at an intermediate care hospital.
