Alex Wisniowski, Ottawa, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
In 1992, Alex Wisniowski started volunteering at Island Lodge Home for the Aged. He sometimes spent several half-days or evenings each week, assisting in the physical therapy room and with social and recreational activities organized by the Lodge. Mr. Wisniowski is also involved with the Pride Committee of Ottawa and has participated in many of its activities as volunteer coordinator, recruiting and maintaining regular contact with 200 volunteers needed to assist in the various Pride Week events. Mr. Wisniowski also fundraises for various charities, such as the Living Room, a drop-in centre in Ottawa for persons living with HIV and AIDS.
