Krishnarao Venkataraman, Toronto, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For thirty years, Krishnarao Venkataraman has served the Toronto Indian community. He worked in many capacities to realize the construction of the largest Hindu temple in Canada and to coordinate the Temple Society's fundraising efforts on behalf of Canadian charitable institutions. He is also founding member and Secretary of the Canadian Council of Hindus and is involved in bringing all Hindu organizations in Canada together to work on community projects. In his spare time, he coordinates fundraising events for relief work in India and Sri Lanka, has helped hospitals to recruit and train visitors for Hindu patients and advises hospitals, schools and prisons on how to better understand the religious and cultural differences of their clients.
