Frederick Scott Anderson, Warsaw, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Shortly after retirement, Fred Anderson started a ten-day concert series, the Peterborough Arts and Water Festival. In 1987, with the support of the community and local businesses, he developed the Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights, an outdoor event held twice weekly at the Del Crary Park from June through August. The concerts, which are free of charge and sponsored by corporations and small businesses, feature first-class entertainment, and draws thousands of people from communities within and outside of Canada. The Festival of Lights has given musicians jobs, brought commerce to the city and provided enjoyment for the public at large.
