Frances I. Zwicker and John M. Zwicker, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Frances and John Zwicker have lived a life of continuous volunteer effort. They have dedicated years and contributed both physically and monetarily to their church and their community. In 1965, they helped with the conversion of a school to a church, and they continue to play key roles in its ongoing maintenance and care. With kindness and energy, Mrs. Zwicker has prepared food for numerous community events, hosting many in her home. Mr. Zwicker's leadership inspired many projects, including a successful penny-by-penny fundraiser to help the church and the Junior Fire Department. In 1990, they donated land and timber to build the fire hall and helped establish staff for the volunteer fire department. Throughout their lives, Mr. and Mrs. Zwicker have demonstrated countless acts of kindness and generosity to others in the community.
