Althea Janet Tolliver, East Preston, Nova Scotia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than 20 years, Althea Tolliver has been actively involved in the community of East Preston, Nova Scotia. Through her church, the Lions Club, and several local organizations, she has assisted and supported the well-being and advancement of youth. Among her many volunteer commitments, Mrs. Tolliver is a founding member of the Black Youth Help Line and the Association of Black Social Workers, is a member of the board of the Gordon Foundation and is secretary of the Preston Area Board of Trade. A faithful, hard-working volunteer, Mrs. Tolliver is the absolute embodiment of her personal motto: "While you might not be able to save the millions, you might be able to save the ones and twos as you go along doing what is right."
