Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Since 1984, Harry Aknavigak has been coordinating sports for the youth and residents in the community of Cambridge Bay. He organizes coaching, fund-raising and tournaments for recreational volleyball and hockey. He can be found three or four times a week at the arena helping to provide activities for young people in the community or supporting fund-raising initiatives. His efforts enable him to give something back to the community and to help develop lifeskills for young people in this small northern town. His voluntarism does not stop with sport -- he is the type of person who can be called upon at any time for any worthy cause.
