Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Carolynn Wilson has raised awareness of the contributions made by Blacks to Canadian society. She co-created and curates the Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum, has successfully fought for the preservation of names of local Black historical landmarks and was instrumental in the restoration of a desecrated Black cemetery. She co-founded a drop-in centre that bears her name and offers support to individuals facing barriers due to educational, social, economic or racial differences by providing training in English as a Second Language, as well as literacy and adult learning through correspondence courses. Ms. Wilson also actively participates in the free lunch program at her church and is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
