A native of Belgium. In recognition of nearly a half century of pioneering, multifaceted Arctic missionary work at Pelly Bay, Igloolik and Hall Beach and his tireless devotion to his Inuit friends, whom he sensitized to the importance of their language and culture both by his actions and his writings.
