Serge Turgeon, C.M., C.Q. (deceased)
Montréal, Quebec
A man of many talents, Serge Turgeon was committed to promoting arts and culture. This great actor played characters on stage and television and, for more than 20 years, was heard on the radio as a host and reporter. He was also dedicated to promoting culture through his participation in various organizations and on government committees. In particular, he made his mark as leader of the Union des artistes, where he waged a historic battle to improve members’ working conditions. For example, it was during his presidency that the Status of the Artist Act was passed by the Quebec and federal governments. Moreover, he directed the Théâtre du Rideau Vert, which grew remarkably under his leadership.
