Founding Director of the Amgen Research Institute, he is internationally recognized as one of our country's most accomplished research scientists. His co-discovery of the T-cell receptor, a key component of the immune system, has accelerated advancements in immunology, molecular biology and the understanding of diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cancer. As a scientific leader and Professor at the University of Toronto, he has encouraged promising young scientists to remain in Canada.
