A former professional boxer and trainer, he has helped shape the lives of Edmonton's young athletes, street kids and children at risk for the past 50 years. He shared his talent, his hopes and even his home with the city's young people, especially Native youth, encouraging them to believe in themselves. A champion of many projects, he co-founded and directed the Gordon Russell's Crystal Kids Youth Centre. He continues to promote the creation of safe havens for youngsters, places where they receive food, clothing, guidance and access to gyms, places where their potential can be realized.
