Ann Hanson has made a significant contribution to the social and cultural development of the North. She is respected for her ability to provide valuable linkages between the traditional ways of her people and contemporary society. She is known as a broadcaster, writer, translator and founding editor of the bilingual newspaper Inukshuk News. A leader in the community of Baffin Hamlet for several years, she also served as deputy commissioner of the Northwest Territories. Deeply committed to sharing and preserving her precious heritage, she has helped to record Inuit songs, stories and legends.
