Anne Innis Dagg, C.M.
Waterloo, Ontario and Hoedspruit, South Africa
Anne Innis Dagg has helped behavioural ecology reach new heights. In the 1950s, she travelled solo to Africa to observe the giraffe in the wild, pioneering work that formed the scientific understanding of the species. Over the next six decades, the citizen scientist published extensively on topics ranging from zoology to gender inequality. The star of the recent documentary The Woman Who Loves Giraffes, she has renewed her commitment to giraffe study and conservation by sharing her groundbreaking work with new audiences.
