This full professor with the Law Faculty at the Université Laval has always been active in promoting human rights and humanitarian causes. The first Francophone woman to receive the Pearson Peace Medal, she is greatly esteemed in her field, having served in important capacities with the Institute for Democratic Development, the United Nations Human Rights Committee and as a delegate to the conference on women held in Beijing in 1995.
