Former Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta, he is currently pursuing his research at the University of Chicago as Chief of Neurosurgery and Director of the Brain Research Institute. He is recognized as a modern Canadian pioneer of neurosurgery, particularly in the field of cerebral aneurysm. His text, "Aneurysms Affecting the Nervous System", is considered to be a definitive book on the subject.
