His contributions in the areas of education, national unity, social justice and heritage conservation are remarkable. Highly regarded for his creative leadership and scholarly writings, he continues to promote an appreciation and understanding of Canada, both within and beyond our borders, building a wider sense of community and respect between individuals and societies. In 1995, his expertise in international academic and cultural affairs was recognized when he was invited to chair the Commission on Commonwealth Studies in preparation for the challenges of the next century. This is a promotion within the Order.
