He has distinguished himself through his service with a multitude of community organizations in Vancouver. Drawing on his business skills as an investment manager, he has worked as a key fund-raiser for organizations such as the YMCA, the Salvation Army and Science World. He helped found the Laurier Institution, a non-profit organization focusing on the economic and social implications of cultural diversity. He is best known for his role in launching the Dragon Boat Festival, an annual event which not only attracts tourists to Vancouver, but also serves to bring together the many different cultural groups in the city.
