Harold Kalant has helped shape our understanding of the causes and effects of substance addiction. Director emeritus of biobehavioural research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and professor emeritus of pharmacology at the University of Toronto, he has been one of the pioneers of the modern scientific study of addictions. Spanning six decades, his research on the effects of alcohol and other psychoactive substances on the body has contributed to the development of effective treatment plans for drug dependency. He continues to be an expert consultant to national and international bodies.
