  He is a dedicated, internationally acclaimed leader in human genetic research whose landmark discovery of the cause of Duchenne muscular dystrophy may result in treatment and, eventually, a cure for this disorder. Despite the complexity of his scientific work, he is known for his very human touch when dealing with patients, staff and fund-raisers.

  A distinguished scientist and leader in biomedical science, Ronald Worton has promoted leading-edge research and innovation in Canada. Former CEO and scientific director of the Ottawa Health Research Institute (now the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute), he was instrumental in developing the organization into one of the foremost Canadian hospital-based research institutes. An advocate for health research, he has also provided leadership to Canada's Stem Cell Network and, at the international level, the Human Genome Organisation.
