She is a pioneer in the field of gerontology who has provided significant leadership throughout her career by working tirelessly to foster research and education in the problems of aging and to improve the circumstances of the elderly. Founding Director of the first centre in gerontology at a Canadian university, she continues to contribute to the well-being of Canada's aging population through her active participation in a number of professional, health and community organizations.
