Currently president of the Institute for Research on Public Policy and a professor at Queen's University, he continues to enhance the quality of debate in Canada. Hugh Segal’s commitment to the public interest has earned the respect and admiration of Canadians. As chair of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, he delivered recommendations that have modernized Canada’s international developmental assistance, and was known for his expertise in national security issues. He monitored the human rights situation in Sri Lanka as Canada’s special envoy to the Commonwealth, and initiated a debate on welfare reform that has expanded across the country. His commitment to public service continues in his role as the fifth master of Massey College.
