Officer of the Order of Canada
- Awarded on: December 14, 1981
- Invested on: April 21, 1982
Born in a log cabin at Sainte-Marthe, Saskatchewan, he studied art at the University of Manitoba and in Montreal and the United States. Returning home, he turned to sculpture in the folk-art vein. Insight and humour mark his portraits of his rural neighbours and their farm animals. His art has enriched the cultural life of the prairies and constitutes one of Canada's most original artistic productions.
