Forty years ago, while teaching in Ontario, she was inspired by the work of the John Howard Society. After a period at a Child Guidance Clinic in Winnipeg she went to Vancouver and helped to develop the Society's work in assisting prisoners and their families and developed the Elizabeth Fry Society. Later she became a school Social Worker, the first in British Columbia and extended volunteer work in the corrections field to the interior of the Province.
