For more than 35 years, John N. Smith has been making films that are enriching and deeply challenging. During a career with the National Film Board of Canada, and as an independent filmmaker, he has produced, written and directed a multitude of distinctly Canadian films, both documentary and fiction, often based on real events in our history. His highly regarded body of work has received numerous national and international awards. Films such as Sitting in Limbo, The Boys of St. Vincent, Dieppe and The Englishman's Boy remain important and provocative contributions to Canadian cinema.
