During her quarter-century tenure as head of the Still Photography Division of the National Film Board, Ottawa, Lorraine Monk worked tirelessly, through the many exhibitions she organized and the major books she published, to foster the art of fine photography in Canada. In 1978, she was the founding director of the Canadian Museum of Photography, Toronto, which is the first of its kind in the country.
